Basic FAQ's

1. What is the Lansmoore Lasers?

The Lansmoore Lasers are a summer league swim team competing in the Gwinnett County Swim League. Founded in 2005, we provide a fun, supportive, and team-oriented environment for swimmers of all skill levels.

Our program focuses on teaching the fundamentals of swimming, improving technique, and introducing athletes to the excitement of racing. We also emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth both in and out of the pool.

Most importantly, the Lansmoore Lasers are about having fun—helping swimmers build confidence, make lasting friendships, and develop a lifelong love for the sport.

2. Are practices mandatory?

We encourage swimmers to attend practices regularly, but they are not mandatory and attendance is not taken. Swimmers who practice more consistently tend to see greater improvement.

3. Are meets mandatory?

Swimmers are encouraged—but not required—to participate in meets. If your child will miss a meet, please indicate their availability in SwimTopia by 8:00 PM on the Friday before each Thursday meet.

4. What skill level is required for team members?

To join the team, swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted. If a child is close but not quite there yet, they may join as a “Little Laser.”

5. Is swim team a substitute for swim lessons?

No. Swim team is a competitive program focused on refining technique and developing racing skills. It is not a substitute for swim lessons. Swimmers should already be able to swim at least 25 yards independently.

6. What is a “Little Laser”?

“Little Lasers” are swimmers (typically ages 4–7) who are not yet able to swim a full lap unassisted but can swim at least half the length of the pool independently.

This group is not designed for beginners learning to swim, but rather for swimmers who are close to joining the full team. Little Lasers receive more individualized instruction from junior coaches and experienced swimmers.

They begin practicing after the school year ends and may participate in the opening event at home meets only, with a coach in the water for safety. Once a swimmer can complete one full lap unassisted, they move up to the regular team.

7. Are registration fees the same for Little Lasers?

Yes. Registration fees are the same because Little Lasers can move onto the full team as soon as they are able to complete a lap unassisted. They also receive more individualized coaching and participate in the same end-of-season celebration and awards as the rest of the team.

8. Can I choose which events my child swims at a meet?

Typically, no. Coach Olivia selects events based on each swimmer’s skill level and the needs of the team.

However, one meet each season allows swimmers to choose their individual events or opt out of specific ones. This meet is usually held toward the end of the season, and details will be shared in advance.

9. What type of suit does my child need?

For practices, swimmers may wear any swimsuit they prefer. However, Coach Olivia asks that swimmers avoid wearing swim shirts, as they can interfere with technique and may contribute to shoulder strain.

For meets, swimmers are encouraged to wear red or black suits to match the team. Team suits are available through our team vendor here: Reddiset Link
